I am located on the east coast and we do a lot of Sandy homes, homes that were affected by super storm Sandy.
FEMA provides funding to either demolish the house and build a new one or raise the home above base flood elevation.
As a sub contractor we need to fix any damaged wiring and 99% of the time lower the meter and change the breaker panel.
The house I am working on was raised 4-5 feet (4-5 feet of foundation) which now can be considered an under-floor storage space or a garage?
The under-neath the house space has now 3 separate spaces.
1. space which is porch, 2. big space that has garage door and it is divided in the middle by a support beam and 3rd space which is located under the living room also divided in half by a support beam and it is only 5 feet high.
I have installed 1 light in the space 1. 5 lights in the space 2 and 3 lights in the space 3.
Is there a code besides 210.70(A)(3) that requires adequate lighting in those spaces?
If I install just a light in space 2 by the garage door then the rest will be dark.
We had man instances when the inspector wanted extra lights so we always put enough lights so there wouldn't be any problems during inspection.
The project manager from the state who supervises the company that I work for doesn't want to pay for any extra lights. Any extra work needs to be approved by the state so the company I work for gets money to pay me. The ceiling is being sheet-rocked, double 5/8 sheet-rock.
If I have to install the lights later it will be a pain, cutting the sheet-rock etc not to mention it will cost 3x as much.
