lightning protection

I have an electrical inspector giving me fits about bonding my lightning rod system to his electric ground- doesn't NEC 250.18 specify that?- Does anybody have the actual section that refers to this so I can shut this inspector up?

L P D:

Don't try to shut up the inspector, try to educate him. You'll get a lot further, chances you will see him again in the future.

L P D show him in the code book you bought since July 18.

Really, this isn't a joke, how can you be a pro and not have the tools to perform the task.

I would think all code books and literature applicable would be with you or in your office at all times.

I have invested thousands of dollars just for books.

Roger:

I was going check my NFPA 78 Lightning Protection Code, to see if this wasn't a part of that Code. BUT; like a (I never learn) dummy I loaned this to an electrical contractor that bid a lightning protection job repair and wanted to know something about lightning protection systems.

I asked him how he knew how to bid the job?
He got it T&M I dropped the subject at that point........

Re: lightning protection

Lightning produde, it is required by NEC that the lightning protection be bonded to the service electrode. Out away from my code book but I think it is 250.64.

It is also required per NFPA 780 and UL-96A.

So what is your profession?

Re: lightning protection

I see that there are a bunch of know it alls here, but did you rocket scientists ever stop to think that maybe somebody did not have their code book handy or had a life that did not evolve around momorizing NEC codes????

Yes, most of us know how to get a code book.

We might have thought that except we read what you said here July 18, 2003 16:12.

can anyone quote this article- I do not have a copy of NEC
So did you get a code book since then and misplace it?

Very true few of us "momorize' the NEC most of us pick up the book.

Bob (not a "Pro" or a Vice President but still has a code book) ;)

Re: lightning protection

I don't consider myself a know it all, but COMMON SENSE tells me that having a friend in the electrical inspector will go a lot further with this project and future projects than having him resent you.

This is not rocket science this is what I learned in 1st grade (they did not have kindergarten when I went to elementary school.)
