Only a UL-96A Master Label lightning protection system installed by an authorized contractor and inspected by UL will be recognized by insurance agencies. Basically most of the criteria is in NFPA-780.

that is really very interesting. No wonder I found Lightning Protection U.L. certified systems in the ads for this companies and their not electrical contractors, well at least there is no license displayed in their advertisement. Any idea how we could get certified? I guess it depends on the state we are in.

Try this


As Charlie indicated you could try to do it yourself than have it inspected by a UL contractor, but there is a catch: UL will charge you a hefty fee for the inspection, and if you fail, you will have to pay the fee again and keep paying it until you either give up or get it right. That could be an expensive education.

Next download a copy of NFPA 780 and you will get a pretty good idea of what is involved.
