lightning rods

a building was recently renovated by removing evaporative coolers and replacing each with a refrigerated air unit. the existing lightning rods were removed and replaced on top of the new A/C units. does this conform with code? and if it doesn't what section of the NEC is it written in?

Lighting protection is not required by code. If the system carried some type of third party inspection, such as UL Master Label, the new installation would have to be reinspected to ensure conformance with UL 96A
