I have a job that requires replacing 42 can trims in these old fixtures with the tabs that press against the trim to hold it up.These tabs do a poor job of holding trims snug to ceiling.Any suggestions on how to insure a snug fit? Tried installing little springs between prongs ,works ok, but expensive

The problem is that they spring back down a little, because the tabs move the whole can upward from friction, unless you can find a way to pull on the can while pushing up on the trim.

Sometimes, twisting the trim while pushing helps reduce that friction. A recessed-light bulb extender can help you pull down on the can while twisting and pushing up on the trim.

You can also buy Halo 310W or 410W trims with coil springs, or buy the springs separately and drill tiny holes in the top edge of the trims you already have.
