Does anyone know which code requires lights in patient care, kitchen and dinning areas need to have lens? Several folks told me that but have no clues where that requirement come from.

Around here it is in the health codes for food service, there is no requirements in dwellings except closets and bathtubs/shower areas, and I'm not sure about patient care areas, as I have seen many of those large reflector lights hanging from the ceiling that doctors use to examine a patient, and they never have a lens over the lamp?

The requirement for lenses in patient care areas is found in the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities, either part 10.3.5.2(1)(a)(iii) of the 2006 AIA version, or in part 2.1-8.3.4.3(1)(a)(iii) of the 2010 FGI version. Whichever version applies depends on the AHJ in your jurisdiction (usually at the state level).
