You will need to have a starting amount of current, before a certain fuse can be specified. A fault current calc will need to be done, and then the right fuse can be found. If you can get ahold of a Cooper/Bussmann book, the steps are all there. They may even have it available online. check www.bussmann.com

I'm sure, if you can give all the details needed, someone here will be able to walk you though it.

Rick is correct. You need the available fault current from the source at the 1600 amp panel. If you are planning to use these fuses to reduce the fault to 10k amps so you can use breakers rated
at 10 ka, this is not an approved method. The fuse and breakers must be series rated. UL or some approval body tests the fuse and breakers together to determine if they work. If you use fuses and breakers that are not approved you can destroy the breakers and maybe some other equipment.

Bob,

I like your response, this is not a subject for beginners. Coordination is for engineers and if one is trying to save some money in installation costs, call an engineer for this. Hopefully the job was not priced before you get this info!!!
