Does the electronically controlled door for a linear accelerator in the radiation/oncology section of a hospital need to be on the life safety branch of EES?

If that's too vague i can certainly go into more detail.

I guess it depends. Can you manually open the door within the ADA parameters (which I could not tell you what they exactly are).

A door opener doesn't seem to be required, its normally a convenience. Unless its a accessibility issue, i.e. too heavy.

Again defer to ADA if in doubt.

517.32 states that automatically operated doors used for building egress must be on the life safety branch. I think it's safe to say that this door is not considered a building egress door. If you would like it to still be on an emergency circuit, you are permitted to place it on the equipment branch. However, you aren't required to, so you can feed it with a normal circuit if you like.

I do not think this is an automatically operated door. Maybe I am wrong, I was thinking a door that will open when a button is pressed for the handicapped. Its is not a true automatic door, in the sense it is opening for everyone with a motion/microwave sensor.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Isn't that still an "automatic" door though in the sense that electricity can be used to open it instead of manual force? I always put corridor doors with handicapped push buttons on the life safety branch, since they are doors along the path of egress, and I consider them to be "automatic." Then again...the handicapped push button doors can be opened just fine without the electric door operator...I don't know that the same can be said about the "motion sensor" doors. Maybe you're right.

Yes when you push the button it automatically opens. But its not an automatic automatic door. Its a demand automatic door.

After re-reading that previous statement I just typed above, I digress :)
