Line side of breaker

Main breaker is on top (of the panels I am talking about). The panels that were upside down had the mains on the bottom and the labels in the can were upside down.

What they did was to have two panels, one above the other, fed from the middle, with the upper panel upside down.

I was told by the foreman that any panel that had all horizontal breakers could be mounted either way and the inspector agreed.

There is no true "top" with pretty much all panels anymore unless they would have a vertical operating main.

My main experience is with Square D on the commercial/industrial panels, but all of what I have installed at least past 10-15 years, you can change the lugs so either end can be the supply end and connect the bus adapter links to the other end that had lugs removed, this makes the panel universal and you don't necessarily have to specify top or bottom feed.
