Hello,
I am trying to get some input from all you healthcare gurues. Do the feeder conduit and the conduits installed for the installatoin of the control wiring, which is installed by the x - ray vendor. Does this have to comply with 517.13?

517.13 (A) only applies to branch circuits. But some of your linear accelerator wiring could probably be considered as "branch circuits".

And I would definately suggest ground wires with feeders and branch or "supply" circuits.

But probably not for the control wiring.

The vendor should provide detailed installation instructions. If you follow those, you shouldn't have any problems.

BTW, "x-ray" isn't really the right term. Definately don't try to apply the x-ray demand factors to the feeders and branch circuits.

Linear Accelerators are a conceptual headache, because the entire room it's contained in fits our conventional sense of the word "appliance."

I don't think there is a feeder between the supplies and the table, I think that they are branch circuits (even though they are a high amperage). It is odd, though, because IIRC the last linear accelerator I saw was open bottom at the equipment. We ran EMT overhead because it was being installed in a remodel.

I would first review the installation manual in depth, write questions; then get in touch with the tech from the vendor, and then run his advice past the AHJ for approval.

As Bob indicated in this thread, I too am not entirely sure the NEC does not stop at the first disconnect of each piece of the LA.
