So, being observant as I am, I've noticed links have quit working. I figure it's a reaction from the webmaster due to the ever so helpful sales-spamming we've been enduring of late.

Is this temporary or permanent?

Which links aren't working?

I think he's referring to hyperlinks created using the [url] and [/url] codes.

Instead of being "hyperlinks" with that being a pointer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperlink, it's a big ugly mess.

Links, who needs links? We don't need no stinking links!!!

Roger

You can cut and paste the url to get to the site and yes it is a response from the webmaster to the problems that we have had recently.

Thanks, Don. Permanent or temporary, do you know?

Edit: Currently, I have to type [noparse][/noparse.] around my links to keep the forum software from taking them halfway with [URL] tags that it can't use.

George(and anyone/everyone else)....in the meantime:
- copy the link (URL)
- goto http://tinyurl.com/
- paste the URL into the window
- make it tiny
- copy the "tiny" URL and paste it here in the forum.

Some URLs can be quite long - hundreds of characters - the threads may be "widened" and virtually unreadable.

EDIT:

There will be NO WAY to verify the "tiny url" is accuarte w/o visiting the site....it may be to places you would rather not visit.

Unfortunately due to scumbag advertisers it may have to be permant.

We (the moderators, Mike H., and a new webmaster) have been discussing other alternatives.

You may see more changes in the near future, some may be inconvenient to the rule abiding members but are necessary to keep the trash off of the forum.

I have no idea what you are suggesting or why.

We don't want active links on the forum at this time.

I got to thinking about it, and I think it might be my machine doing too much. When I paste a link, and then post the reply, it has tags around it. But I realized this morning that when I posted the links to the pictures that Scott Moran sent me, it didn't happen and I was on my iMac at that time.

So, if it keeps up on my Windows machine, I'll just cope. :)

It would be nice to come up with an alternative.

Is the problem that when members click on the bad links, it exposes the forum to more attempts from the advertisers? Perhaps the forum software could be set up so that "Senior Members" are able to post links, and "Junior Members" are unable until they hit 30 posts? Just throwing ideas out there.
