I am a mechanical engineer trying to write a "Hazardous Locations Wiring Procedure" for our company. I need clarification on NEC code Article 501-4(b) on the usage of liquidtight flexible metal conduit in Class I, Division 2 locations. We use Sealtite type UA conduit for non hazardous locations for our machinery. This is rated for Class I, Div.2, Class II and Class III locations. Can this type of conduit be used in place of rigid metal conduit or only be used if rigid metal conduit is very difficult to install?

The same question applies for Article 502-4a2 and 503-3a2.

Allen You pretty much answered your own question. You an use flexible metal conduit for the class 1 div II location but you also need to refer to article 348.12(5) uses not permitted. If this is installed in an area listed in this section you will have to use rigid metal conduit

You can only use the LFMC "Where provision must be made for limited flexibility". If there is no need for flexibility in the installation, you can't use the sealtight.
