Can I penetrate the roof and use liquid tight as my wiring method?
If I can not do that, which section of the NEC prohibits me of doing so?
Thank you.

Re: Liquidtight flexible metal conduit

I would think that "protection from liquids" would include rain on the roof.

Re: Liquidtight flexible metal conduit

If you are speaking of penetrating the roof, I believe most inspectors would nail you with 350.12(1) "Where subject to physical damage" Just a suggestion, but to save yourself from doing it over if the inpector sees it, penetrate with pipe.

Re: Liquidtight flexible metal conduit

I think that if you penetrate the roof with pipe and then switch over to LFMT it should be fine as a wiring method, as long as it's installed to meet 350.20 through 350.60.

Re: Liquidtight flexible metal conduit

We have used LFMC through a roof where the roofer supplied a pitch pocket which is about 6" above the roof and allows for waterproofing. The pocket should provide protection for the LFMC but as others have noted a conduit penetration may be better.

Will rain damage LFMC?

Re: Liquidtight flexible metal conduit

350.10(1) does not mean that the liquidtite requires protection from liquids, but that it "shall be permitted" where conditions require protection from liquids. The sealtite protects the conductors.
I also have penetrated a roof with sealtite when a pitch-pocket was provided. But I would not use it with just a "witch's hat" type of flashing.
