With a listed direct burial wire. If I choose to use a sleeve or conduit. Is the sleeve or conduit required to be listed for electrical?

Good question. I don't think it would underground but I believe you would have an issue where it rises out of the ground. Not sure what code section so hang in there someone knows.
 
If you mean a sleeve like you run a 2" conduit under a driveway or something to get to the other side, then I would say, no, but if you were running up the side of a wall to a box or something then, yes.
 
I understand that, but is there anything in the code that contradicts 110.2 that says "The conductors and equipment required or permitted by this code shall be acceptable only if approved."
 
I would probably use the old stand by of 110.3(B). You can then go to article 100 and look up "identified".

This comes up in different versions from time to time, such as is an "emt connector-threaded pipe coupling-emt connector" approved to be used as an emt coupling?

Without looking at a piece of pipe I believe what it says it's allowed to be used for. Doesn't gray pipe say "electrical conduit" on it?

And I just put this in another thread, just using different wording, who's doing the approving? If the EC thinks it's ok and the inspector doesn't.......
