We often use these words, in our quest to properly do our jobs. Yet, it helps to keepp in mind that none of our sources - be they the NEC, the 'White Book", UL statement, OSHA letters, manufacturer statements, whatever - are infallible. You just can't avoid making your own call.

Take, as an example, this product's spec sheet:

http://www.cattron.com/dnn/Portals/0/pdf/brochures/LCAS.pdf

By all accounts, this is a responsible manufacturer, making a quality product. Yet, I have to ask: is it NEMA-4X or not? Is there an editing issue or a product issue?

I'll bet others here can come up with other examples of contradictory instructions. Feel free to post your best ... :)

Of course 'calls' have to be made. UL address that themselves and states it is up to the AHJ, not the installer to make these types of calls.
