With the thought that the NEC is for premise wiring (90.2 A), why do we have requirements for extension cords in the NEC? What about holiday decorative lighting? And new for the NEC is welders need to be listed...
 
I have been a long standing opinion of mine that all of that is outside the scope of the NEC, and would be unenforceable if someone took it to court. About 1/2 of Article 422 should be removed from the code.
 
Don I agree with you. It seems to me some organizations/persons find it easier to get the code changed than to address product standards. Its more of a government issue to require product listing. Washington has required product listing since 1935.
