Livonia vs. Westland houses

I've been looking at real estate lately (mainly foreclosed homes), and I've noticed that while most homes in Livonia built in 1953-54 were wired entirely with grounded cable, there are houses in Westland and Dearborn Heights built in 1956-58 that were still wired with ungrounded cable. What year did they start wiring all houses with grounded cable? Should I avoid the houses that don't have grounds?

Actually, there is better value in Livonia than Westland, even though all the houses in the northern part of Westland still have Livonia schools. I've already bought one house in Livonia, and I'm still looking for others. But I saw a house built in 1950 in Livonia that didn't have grounds. I think I will decide to only consider Livonia homes with grounded wiring. I would like to keep my renovation costs as low as possible.

That depends on how many of your plugs are grounding types. Would you replace every receptacle in the house, or only where you need grounding types?

When asked about 'changing my receptacles to grounding type', I usually recommend running a new receptacle circuit for the new equipment (such as a computer or AV system, or an AC or refrigerator) rather than re-wiring existing receptacles.
