We currently rent our load banks for generator testing. We have come to the point where we rent so often that if would pay for us to have our own. I am looking to build a 250kva bank and am looking for wiring diagrams.

There is a lot more to a load bank then wiring diagrams.

There are any number of companies that make them, including the one I work for.

There are lots of issues that need to be addressed.

1) water or air cooled?
2) resistive, inductive, capacitive, or combo?
3) voltage
4) load steps
5) do you need automatic sequencing of loads?
6) single phase, 3 phase, or combo?
7) safety issues
8) monitoring and data collection

The brand I've seen the most at facilities using 200KW+ generators use Avtron load banks.

If I Really Wanted to Build One

If I were going to build one, as the original poster is interested in doing, then I would consider paralleling Electric Unit Heaters, such as are found in the Grainger catalog, Stock Numbers 3UF75 through 3UF98. They range in size from 3 KW to 50 KW and include the heat exchangers and fans to get rid of the heat.

Different sizes could be selected to get a wide range of loads. Just switch in the ones you need to make the load.
