Lampholders vs luminaires. Are can lights, light kits for ceiling fans, bathroom vanity light bars, small four and five light dining room fixtures considered lampholders or luminaires? When performing load calcs, how are these various lighting configs taken into consideration? Are they simply dumped under the heading of "general lighting" ? If so, then it appears there would be quite a difference in the load requirements. Considering the fact that if several "can" type fixtures were installed say in the kitchen , then the lighting load for that configuration would be way different than that a simple ceiling fixture.

Those would be luminaires. Check out the definition of luminaire in Article 100.

For feeder and service calculations they would be considered under the "general lighting" and be based on square footage of a dwelling unit.

For dwelling units it gets lumped under 3.0VA/ft^2 along with the general receptacle load. It would be nice to figure it out exactly but people put any light bulb they want in fixtures.
