load calculation: include unfinished basement sq footage ?

220.82(B) General Loads. The general calculated load shall be not
less than 100 percent of the first 10 kVA plus 40 percent of the
remainder of the following loads:
(1) 33 volt-amperes/m2 or 3 volt-amperes/ft2 for general
lighting and general-use receptacles. The floor area for
each floor shall be calculated from the outside dimensions
of the dwelling unit. The calculated floor area shall
not include open porches, garages, or unused or unfinished
spaces not adaptable for future use.

For standard calc

220.12 Lighting Load for Specified Occupancies. A unit load
of not less than that specified in Table 220.12 for occupancies
specified shall constitute the minimum lighting load. The floor
area for each floor shall be calculated from the outside dimensions
of the building, dwelling unit, or other area involved. For
dwelling units, the calculated floor area shall not include open
porches, garages, or unused or unfinished spaces not adaptable
for future use.

Houses under 3500 square feet are not required to have formal plans or load calculations submitted to the permitting authority. But I always install 200A service for any new house, so that should cover everything.
 
Until recently we have never had a load calculation done for a residence. One area around here has started to require it but I have done them for myself when there are additions involved.
