Doing a remodel where many of the interior walls are filled concrete block, so it's not easy to make changes. The architect has made some wall changes and the old panel will face into a closet. We want to reverse it in the wall as NEC 240.24 restricts clothes closet locations. By reversing it, the kitchen sink is within reach, but there's no other reasonable option. Are there any code restrictions I'm missing?

30 in. x 36 in., not in a closet, sure it`s OK

Re: Load Center Kitchen Location

Jim if counter was underneath than 30 x 36 could not be

Since he didn't exactly say if there was or wasn't is why i replied that way.I have seen a few over the counter.

Re: Load Center Kitchen Location

As an inspector, I really hate to see electric panels in kitchens.

If the panel is located above a counter, like most are, or within 6 feet of water the kitchen area would not be an option.

My big thing is to protect them from themselves and I believe there is more danger in placing a panel in a kitchen then having it blocked in a closet.

Either way, both installations would not be code compliant, correct?

Joe what code article and section would you use to enforce this?

, or within 6 feet of water the kitchen area would not be an option.
I agree the cabinet underneath would be a violation of 110.26(A)(3)

Roger I agree over a counter is not an option,I also looked twice at within 6 ft of a sink....There is an article that prohibits a water heater from being within 3 ft of the panel
(I`d have to search for that one)but it did come up recently and I was shown the article but with this flu my head is foggy. But never heard of within 6 ft of a sink.
