Is it permissable to run the load side conductors from a xfer switch back thru the xfmr secondary compartment feeding the normal side of the same xfer switch? See attached dwg.

If this is a code violation, please cite code reference.

thanks,

I'm not sure if it's a code violation, but it sure seems like more work.
Do you really want your generator feed to go through the transformer?
Even if it's an existing transformer and you're adding a generator with a transfer switch, I still think it'd be easier to J-Box the load and bring it into the ATS

If this is a legally required emergency system, then its a code violation. Its somewhere in NEC article 700.

If its optional, then proabably not a code violation. Still, very bad practice IMO, and should be avoided like the plauge.

IMO if it is a required system, no, as others said. But even if it's an optional system, as a practical matter how would you ever work on that transformer without killing all the power? Sort of defeats the purpose of the optional power. Also I think you would run into serious wire space problems real quick in the xformer.
