I understand that once a month hospitals must test their generators at a certain minimum load. Where is this requirement and what is the minimum load.

Does this apply if the generator is only serving "equipment" loads.

Thanks,

Mike

Start with NFPA 99 4.4 thru 4.6 and NFPA 110 also, you will find the test criteria for each type of system in these standards.

Nfpa 99

Nfpa 99

Is NFPA 99 mandatory for hospitals or just a standard commonly applied or does it depend on the state?

Thanks,

Mike

I'm sure it varies by state, but I think you will have a hard time finding any hospital where NFPA 99 and 110 aren't enforced by one of the AHJ's, be it local, state, or JCAHO.

I usually refer to the latest 99 and 110, but I think the Illinois Dept. of Public Health (for example) offically cites the 1993 code. (Apparently, they don't have a large budget for buying new books).

Mike, it would be up to the state or locality whether NFPA 99 or any NFPA code or standard is applicable but, if the hospital is a JCAHO accredited facility it would be in compliance with NFPA 99 as a minimum
