What ways do you locate private wiring and also how do you find the distance of the wiring in already place?

We use a combination of locators depending on the construction type, construction materials, cable type, location and depth.
Outside, buried and under concrete/asphalt/brick we use 3M Dynatel 2273M-ID/UU5W-RT and/or an Amprobe AT3500.
Inside we use an Ideal 61-959 and/or an Amprobe AT-4005 CON.
For determining length of conductors energized to 600VAC or unenergized we use a Megger TDR900 or Hipotronics TDR1150.
The 3M 2273 has a conductor distance TDR builtin but works only on voltages up to about 150V or deenergized conductors.
The Ideal unit will also trace open and short cable faults on energized or deenergized conductors.
