First thing is knowing whether your raceways are in the slab or below the slab. Worst damage would come from demolition of the slab if raceway is in the slab. If below then remove slab and tell them to be careful digging - hand shovels shouldn't be that damaging even to PVC.

If you do have RMC, as has been mentioned you will likely see sparks when you begin to cut it. Of course you will also see sparks when cutting rebar so you still may not know what you are hitting. Don't most usually score the surface to get a clean edge at surface and then break the rest out with a demolition hammer? PVC won't take the demolition hammer very well but RMC should.

Locating equipment as in underground wire locators - metal raceways will be more difficult, the more raceways you have the more they all interfere with one another when trying to locate. Non metallic raceways, connect locator to a conductor within and isolate it from other potential paths and you probably can have success locating.
