I have a question related to the grouping of building main's and what is classified as an "occupancy" or not. If I power equipment on the roof of a building by pulling power directly from the nearest utility transformer (or vault) and mount my meter and service disconnect on the outside of the building as a service main and run conduits up the outside of the building to the equipment (without ever penetrating the interior of the building). Do I have to worry about the number of mains and grouping of mains inside the building? From what I understand the definition of a separate occupancy in the code is that those occupancies are separated by a firewall. Wouldn't this be considered a separate occupancy and therefore be exempt from having to be grouped with the building mains?
