We've been having a discussion on the job regarding what is location type of a dwelling bathroom. My take is that it's all a dry location with the exception of the footprint of the tub based on Article 100. Other opinions vary from entirely a damp location to a wet location. Any thoughts?

I agree with you- outside of the tub area, a dwelling bathroom is a dry location.

Sure can't ever recall installing wp covers for the bath GFCI.:happyno:

If it was entirely a damp location I believe building codes would require more than standard drywall.

I have never heard of someone being required to use damp location fixtures or wp covers for switches and receptacles. I think that will give you your answer

Yes, I made both of these arguments, damp/wet location covers would be required and something other than standard Sheetrock in the room if it's other than a dry location.

If the CMP's ever change this and make it a damp or wet location we'll have to start using these :

That'll really put home decorators on their heads :p

Let me buy that man a drink. He should go work for Generac; they certainly need the help in the pest area.

As others have written, bathrooms are dry locations. Granted, older ones w/o (properly functioning) exhaust fans can get pretty steamy, even to the point of condensation and drips, but that is not typical of new installs.

Greenboard/durarock is usually only installed behind the tub tile.
