Does having a lockable electrical room door in a grain elevator meet the requirement for 430.102 (B) Exception to (1) and (2). There are individual breakers protecting each motor starter. Would having a lockable push button station within sight of the motor meet the requirement?

In my opinion, it would not meet the requirement for the controllers at all (if they are not "in sight").
If the individual breakers are lockable and you meet the requirements for the exception in 430.102, that might suffice for the motor.

I would say no,as the holding coil on the starter or contactor could be jumpered out thus energizing the driver. One of the FPN's mentions in an industrial establish with written SAFETY PROCEDURES etc etc may allow it but in my eyes still risky, better to error on the side of safety.

My opinion is no, a lockable door to the room would not be sufficient. A lockable pushbutton would definately not comply if it is only breaking the control circuit.

The exception does permit the disconnecting means for the controller to service as the disconnect for the motor, but the entire requirements must be met. Having the electrical room door locked would not meet the exception.
?The provision for locking or adding a lock to the controller disconnecting means shall be installed on or at the switch or circuit breaker used as the disconnecting means and shall remain in place with or without the lock installed.?

Section 430.103 states: ?The disconnecting means shall open all ungrounded supply conductors and shall be designed so that no pole can be operated independently. The disconnecting means shall be permitted in the same enclosure with the controller. The disconnecting means shall be designed so that it cannot be closed automatically.?

I agree with the need for the motor current disconnecting means. Finally made sense of the term controller, thinking it was the start-stop station was wrong.
