Looking for a good underground wire locator.

I am looking for any thoughts on a good underground wire locator. I am an electrician that works for a plumbing company and I am tired of splicing URD after the backhoe hits it because they never call me until after they hit. I have rented a Greenlee BLL-200 locator for a couple of jobs but I would like to buy a good one that can locate energized, not energized, and sometimes faults in underground cables. Thanks

This is the one I use and although I haven't mastered all of it's capabilities it is a impressive unit.
Pow-r Mole is great with assisting you over the phone and have even met with me on sight to help me through a difficult locate.

Try looking at Greenlee 501. Tracker 11 for a basic locator. We have one similar that has worked quite well for 25 years. We have used it on just about any buried metalic item. Fault locates are tricky at best with it. Other items are better. $700.

Tempo PE2003 is the fault finder similar to ours. Good basic unit that works very well. Add a megger and you are in business.
