:confused: I took the Michigan Masters exam last week back (NEC 05) and had a few questions baffle me. I could use help finding the answers. If you can, please site code ref. Questions were something to the effect;

1) Additions more than ____ square feet require service load to be recalculated.
A 100, B 250, C 400, D 1000

2) What is the maximum wire fill of concrete cellular conduit?
A 35%, B 40%, C 53%, D 60%

3) What is the maximum pigtail lenth for an office partision?
A 12", B 24" C 36", D 48"

4) underground service conduit emerging into a building must be___.
A shielded, B sealed, (C and D were something obviously not the answer).

Our usual expectation is that you would first give your answers, or if you really don't know, at least tell us what sections you have looked at, in an effort to find the answers.

#2 I looked in 372 and chapt9. I guessed 40%

#3 605.8 I said 12"

#4 looked at 230.6, 230.32, 230.49 but didnt see any of the answer available on the test.

agree
#3 605.8 i said 12"
take another look
#4 looked at 230.6, 230.32, 230.49 but didnt see any of the answer available on the test...i would think it asked "cable" rather than conduit (as worded..look at 300.5 .

#2 - 40% fill of cross section area 372.11

#3 - unfound. 6" minimum tail length at outlet box. Most partitions I have worked with have a manufacture supplied nonmetalic flex whip at least 48" long with conductors connected to modular inlet at partition base.

#4 - seal conduit(s) with duct seal to block air movement from warm to cold areas 372.11

Thanks guys, That helps a lot. I will research #3 a little more. Not sure if they were looking for 6" or 48" but I remember the word "whip". My understanding is that they are short to prevent people from walking by and tripping over the whip next to the partition.

Yes,Must be Cable seal! I was thinking they were looking for "mechanical protection.

My hats off to you guys
