Boss has asked a couple of us to make a list of breaker lockouts we need to cover general LOTO situations on our plant.

I have already been searching our supplier websites but finding incomplete information. Most don’t state what brand of breakers they work with. I have seen a few devices out & around that cover several brands but I never saw the brand names or models of the lockouts. I used to have a Garvin catalog Thad had a lot but their website shows little now.

We have a lot of single pole QO, double pole QO, single & double pole Siemens, double pole & 3 phase I Line and similar with Siemens. Breakers up to 600 amp.

What do any of you use that you like? I hope also to avoid the types with rubber bands. That’s something to get lost.

This one from Siemens covers a lot of what's out there, at least for small commercial or residential panels.

We went though one plant and installed about 5000 breaker locks so all you have to do is turn the breaker off and put your lock and tag on. They did not want anyone to use the ones that are not "permanently" attached to the breaker

Fastened in place is required for code required applications. For those not required, portable ones are used, example a lighting circuit.

Don't LOTO padlock hasps need to be permanently mounted or fastened in place?
Only when they are required to be disconnects and lockable by the code. There are a lot of breakers that are not required to be lockable by the code, but need to be locked out for electrical work, and in those cases you use the non-permanently mounted type.

Only required to be fastened in place for code required ones. Portable ones ftom panduit are for cords, switches, cbs, for example a lighting circuit.

Master Lock has a selection for breakers from Din rail to molded case, and light switch type for LOTO.
One of their items I did not like are the personal locks that are plastic case. The case is easy to shatter with channel locks and a screw driver. Grab base, put screwdriver in loop, and twist.

OSHA says that if tools are required to remove the device, it is ok to use, but by just pulling on it, not ok.
