I inherited a trim out job where the electrician pulled 18-2 thermostat wire to four precut 4 1/2" openings in a kitchen soffet. The cans are not yet installed. The other end of the 18-2 is run to a j-box in the basement where a 120v switch leg is present as if a transformer would be mounted there. I'm not real well versed in low voltage lighting but the 18-2 seems way too small to carry the load of four low voltage cans. FWIW, the j-box in the basement was labled "puck lights" but I have never seen a puck light that would mount in a 4 1/2" opening. Any thoughts?
