Low voltage communication wiring

We have run voice and data cables in high-rise buildings. In such environment, we supported wires with supporting wires attached to the ceiling and T bar. We are working on a project on a small warehouse office. I would like to find out if we can attach Voice and data wires directly to the ceiling with J hook nails.

NEC 300.11 Securing and Supporting.
(A) Secured in Place. Raceways, cable assemblies, boxes, cabinets, and fittings shall be securely fastened in place. Support wires that do not provide secure support shall not be permitted as the sole support. Support wires and associated fittings that provide secure support and that are installed in addition to the ceiling grid support wires shall be permitted as the sole support. Where independent support wires are used, they shall be secured at both ends. Cables and raceways shall not be supported by ceiling grids.

IBC 1621.2.5 also prohibits supporting anything from the grid wires.

I'm not clear on what ceiling you are refering to. Is it a dropped or hung ceiling? If so, exactly where do you want to run the wiring- above in the plenum attached to the T bar or do you want to run it in the room below fastened to the surface of the T bar and tile.

Or, are you talking about the ceiling above the dropped or hung ceiling.

Don't believe 300.11 is the proper section for your voice and data cables.

I recommend reviewing section/article 800 of the NEC. But more specific information is contained in TIA 569 Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunications Pathways and Spaces (ANSI/TIA/EIA-569-A-98) WWW Link:

As well as the BICSI TDMM MANUAL 10th ed(http://www.bicsi.org/Publications/Index.aspx) they are more specific on voice and data requirements and are well within NEC and NFPA reqirements.
