Low voltage toe space lighting? 600watt 12 volt Trans. 5- 80 watt strips of lighting. Running Class 2 16 ga to each strip from transformer. Whats protecting the ampacity of each of these runs? Transformer has a resettable circuit breaker protecting its
capacity but why doesn't the manufacturer provide a fusible link protecting their components?

Re: Low Voltage lighting (interior)

I think you need to do some research and installation instruction reading for this installation.

1. see table 11(A) in Chapter 9

2. Routing of the type conductors becomes a factor and you may be restricted to a Chapter 3 wiring method - see Art 411.4

Re: Low Voltage lighting (interior)

Alvez,

Overcurrent protection at the manufactured luminaire will only protect the #16 from a failure in the luminaire.

If the #16 fails between the luminaire and the transformer, the only limit on the current is the transformer OCPD, which, assuming a 12 Volt secondary, will be around 50 Amps running and on up to the fuse curve of the OCPD.
