This is under the 2008 NEC, I'm looking at some low voltage LED strip lights mounted about 6' laterally and 12" above the indoor pool deck on a wall. According to 411.4(B) these lights must be a minimum distance of 10' from the waters edge unless permitted by Article 680. I can't seem to find anything in 680 that would allow 12 volt lighting installed in this location. Am I missing something?

2008 NEC:
411.4(B) Pools, Spas, Fountains, and Similar Locations.
Lighting systems shall be installed not less than 3 m (10 ft) horizontally from the nearest edge of the water, unless permitted by Article 680.

As I recall under the 2008 edition this would not be allowed. There was a change in about the 2014 edition that will allow certain lights be I can't recall the details off the top of my head.
Maybe someone will chime in.

To follow up after a little quick checking...
No, this was not allowed until the 214 edition and even at that it would have to be supplied by a listed power supply identified for swimming pool and spa use. See 680.22(B)(6) in the 2014 or later edition for all the details.

Yes I remember there was a small change that addressed LV lighting in later code cycles but under the 2008 NEC there can be no LV lighting within 10' of the pools edge.

For sake of discussion, if you were allowed to do this by using current code I wonder where one would find an LED driver
that is listed and identified for pool and spa use.
