Low voltage switches

Does anyone know if a low voltage switch is required to have a UL Listing. I've heard that all electrical equipment in the city of Chicago has to be UL Listed. Then someone came back and said that this was not the case if it was a class II power limited device that was under 32v. Can someone with experience in the city of Chicago which incorpoartes many of NEC's codes let me know what the real scoop is???

I was told that class II equipment that was power limiting didn't have the same UL Listed requirements and that these devices are installed all across the country with no issues from electrical inspectors but I would hate to be the first one nailed for something of this nature so that's why I want to be sure before approving this installation.

At one time UL did not list things with a voltage supply of less then 30 some volts. They could be recognized but not listed. I believe that situation has long since changed.
