I HAD A PROBLEM WITH AN INSPECTOR ON THE JOB RECENTLY ABOUT RUNNING LOW VOLTAGE AMBIENCE WIRE.
WE ROUGHED WIRED FOR OVER THE CABINET LIGHTS, WE RAN THE 10/2 STRANDED AMBIENCE WIRE TO A REMOTE TRANSFORMER IN THE BASEMENT & THEN TO A FIXTURE OVER THE CABINET.
NOW THE INSPECTOR SAID THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THAT WIRE THROUGH A WOOD STRUCTURE DUE TO THE CLASS OF THE TRANSFORMER.
I"VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE WITH THIS METHOD.

Re: LOW VOLTAGE WIRE

The inspector is correct. Look at 411.4
You must use a wiring method specified in chapter 3 such as NM cable, AC cable MC cable or raceway with approved conductors.

Re: LOW VOLTAGE WIRE

Mark,

We just had a rather long thread on this. Scroll back through the posts and look for "over and under cabinet" lighting.
