Change 725.8, 760.8, 770.24, 800.24 and 820.24.

Current text regarding workmanship refers the user to 300.4(D) for the protection of the cables. Change to refer the user to 300.4

Substantiation:

The simple fact that the NEC addressed the very valid concern for conductor portection and integrity goes to show the importance of these limited energy circuits. To refer to 300.4(D) only means that the provisions of 300.4, in particular 300.4(A), cannot be enforced, as per 90.3. The likelihood of cable damage is greatly increased where conductors, cables and raceways are installed in bored holes as opposed to parrallel to framing members.

Re: Low voltage XXX.XX

Has there been a problem with cable damage that needs to be corrected? Is this required to protect persons or property? This looks like a good idea but I am not so sure that I agree with the change in the 2005 Code to require 300.4(D) be complied with. :D

Re: Low voltage XXX.XX

Hi Charlie. Its going to be difficult to come up with a technical substantiation for this. I'm going to keep thinking on it and see what I can come up with. It just doesn't make sense to require 300.4(D) and not 300.4(A).

Re: Low voltage XXX.XX

Unfortunately, I agree with you. I can also see the panel agreeing with you on that basis. As I said before, I don't agree with the change in the 2005 Code. :D

Re: Low voltage XXX.XX

As a "for what it's worth" comment; keep in mind you are dealing with two CMP'sn (3 and 16). You will probably need two coordinated proposals. When they are submitted tell both CMPs about the "other" Proposal. This usually flags everyone, especially the TCC, that some additional coordination may be necessary if the CMPs react differently.

300-4d

300-4d

300-4d was a change that was a problem from the beginning. Once the change is in , it's hard to remove it. Now it's used a reference. Vertical protection was not needed then or now.
