Regarding feeders, can someone explain the difference between life safety and emergency? How would one identify life safety feeders from emergency feeders? Thanks.

Life safety and Emergency systems are one and the same. Bluntly, when safety of human life is involved when normal power is interrupted, these feeders must be on an emergency feeder! You are required to provide emergency power in less than 10 seconds.
The other backup system is the "legally-required" system--> systems which are needed for supply of power to firefighting efforts, rescue, mitigating health hazards and similar operations. You are required to provide power to these feeders in less than 60 seconds.

I'm guessing that his question is regarding NEC Chapter 7.

Then the term Life Safety is not correct, it is only used in article 517 as far as being a specific system.

I agree but knowing where mstrlucky works fire alarm and egress lighting are often (incorrectly) called life safety. Maybe he can clarify if this is actually an Article 517 installation.

Power riser says all EM feeders are to be MI cable. That to me is incorrect. All EM feeders are never MI, just usually fire pump and genset.

Sounds like a waste of someones money. Just to clarify these are part of the Article 700 emergency system? There is no Article 701 Legally Required Standby in the NYC electrical code those requirements fall under Article 700.

I don't follow what your asking. How would I know what your referring to?
