I need to light pictures on a shelf that is 78" wide and 24" from the ceiling. The customer wants LV recessed lights. What I need to learn is how many fixtures do I need, and where to place them. I was looking at Halo 4" LV. The fixture will be in contact with insulation.

Does anyone know what to buy and where to place them (fixture, trim, lamp)? Does anyone know a web site or a book where I can learn about this?

Thanks in advance,

The problem you will have is heat from lv halogen lamps so close to combustible material no one will want the liability of sugesting a fire situation sparky

The hi-hats will be installed in the ceiling. I want to use a eyeball trim to aim the light toward the shelf. I doubt the lights would be close enough to shelf that there would be a fire hazard.

I do this all the time. Use the Halo 1493p trim its adjustable 30 degrees. Eyeballs protruding from the ceiling is too obstructive & they only offer the same 30degrees too.

Depending on how much light & just what it is your lighting you'll want 2 minimum & 3 max. Use the EZN bulbs 40 degrees.
Now I have to ask.... are the shelves wood or glass?
Lighting wood shelves from the ceiling, as you talking about will only create the ugliest "freeking" shadows from the shelves. Hold your flashlight up there to see for your self. Its a geometry thing with the shadows

If the shelves are glass why not also put the same fixture above the shelves shinging down. Or you can always use the Hockey pucks above the shelves too.
It really depends on what your customer is wanting lit.
