Just wondering if a MRL elevator is installed does the disconnect has to be with in sight of the motor in the hoist way?Seems like the space will be too tight to install a disconnect at the top where the machine sits and to do maintenance will be a pain in the rear end.

Most of the illustrations I have seen of MRL elevators put the controller on top of the car and put the disconnect there as well. I haven't viewed any in the wild, myself.

I saw the elevator cut sheet and yes there is a controller on the top landing but the controller generally goes on the door jamb.Where would you mount the disconnect?

I guess I wasn't clear. What I've seen (again, only in illustration) is on top of the elevator car itself. I've not seen any other illustrations, so if this is what you're seeing in real life you are ahead of me on this.

Generally for the jobs i have seen i for MRL elevators disconnects for elevator motors and cab lights are located in a closet nearby. But my question is does that qualify as a disconnect with in sight?I guess if the disconnects are being capable of being locked in the open position then it doesnt need to be within sight?

The ones I have done have the disconnect located on the top of the car.
