Have a CNC machine that came in from another plant . The FLA on the nameplate is 162 amps . They were feeding the machine with a 75 KVA 480-208v transformer with only a 60 amp feed . Apparently this worked fine and did not give them any issues . Is there a code issue in not feeding the transformer for whats it is rated for ?

I'm a bit surprised that you are not having a problem both from load and inrush currents, however, as long as the conductors and transformer are protected, I see no Code issue other than sizing components for the load.

Most CNC machines have numerous motors, and the rules for making an overall name plate dictate that it include the total combined FLA. But it is extremely rare if not impossible to operate all of the motors at full load at the same time.
