I have an interesting situation at an old building. They have pre existing wiring for a 24V momentary contact door switch. The old door and switch were replaced with a double swing door making the old switch in the way of the inswing. The old switch was replaced with a common 24v 200ma magnetic alarm system switch NO when little magnet is persent below it.

However when the door was proped open for delivery the chime plunger would stay down against the chime and the magnetic switch naturally melted down.
So the switch needs to make momentary contact once per swing (in either direction).
I have searched around and not found any products for this application.
I have seen alarm systems that have a chime sound when the door is opened but nothing without an alarm system.
I am trying to save the cost of making something custom with a relay and proximity sensors.
The customer does not want anything that requires battery's. Nor do they want to just hang a bell on the door since the chime needs to be in a different area.
I checked all our supply houses and even a local electronics / alarm supply and found nothing.

Thanks for any ideas?

A single shot time delay realy would do the trick. I like this one in the 11 pin version as you can make it do almost any timing function that you can think of.

Edwards Signals has a couple switches that might work.
www.edwards-signals.com

46E = Recessed rolling ball contact is a push to make, then break and repeat on return.

236 = A door trip switch that hangs over top of door so that the door moves the switch and then it swings back to normal.

If you're electronically and tinkeringly inclined I'd try a bridge rectifier, a resistor, and a capacitor, such that the resistor seriously limits the current when the switch is on, so the chime wont burn out, but the cap will store enough energy to make a "bong" when required.

The more expensive option is the commercial one-shot timer, as mentioned above. That will definitely work!

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

So when I when I got back to the place to size up other non realated electrical issues and where to put a relay for the door I was surprised to see a maintainace guy had already replaced the NO magnetic swith with a NO/NC one and wired the bell to the NC side and set it so the magnet does not rest below when the door is shut but flys by for a moment when the door opens. Thus magnet closes the switch for a moment and it bongs. All I had to do was find the same unit and install one in parallel on the other side of the door so it works both ways.

Cheers
