I have (10) sets of 600KCMIL conductors going to 4000A service. Per 250.29.D, we have to use minimum of 750KCMIL as main bonding jumber. Can I use parallal jumbers, in another word, can I run (2)400KCMIL instead of (1)750KCMIL? Thank you.

Re: Main Bonding Jumber

Sam34, If i read 310.4 right,only phase conductors,polarity conductors(DC),nuetral conductors,or grounded circuit conductors.I don't see main bonding jumpers.

Re: Main Bonding Jumber

I'm with George usually large service equipment comes with a equipment grounding bus and a busbar bonding jumper. But to answer your the requirement in 250.24(B) is for an "unspliced main bonding jumper". Would two conductors in parallel be considered one bonding jumper?

Re: Main Bonding Jumber

Thank you guys for your reply, I think it should comes with a equipment grounding bus and a busbar bonding jumper. Somewhat I thought we have to provide it our self. Is all service entrance equipment should come with bus bar bonding jumper? or at certain amperage rating? Thanks again

Re: Main Bonding Jumber

From a performance standpoint, I don't see why paralleling the main bonding jumper, if equivalent in size to 250.28 requirements, would be a problem.

From a code standpoint, it doesn't appear the NEC indicates an allowance or a restriction of this practice.

Sam, 4000 amp switchgear is not sitting on a shelf waiting to be bought it is built to order.

When you order it tell them to build it with a MBJ.

Just like you tell them top bottom feed etc.

Re: Main Bonding Jumber

I have seen instances when large gear is ordered and someone forgets to mention it's going to be used as service equipment. No only is the MBJ missing, but the label listing it as service equipment is. Amazing how difficult it is to have that service equipment label field installed.
