I install a lot of 200amp 8/16 space outside disconnects .Often the inside panel is only 100 amp and fed from a 100 amp plug in breaker. The remaining spaces out side are used for a/c compressor , well pump, and sometime run a line inside for range. My question is what is proper way to label the 200 and the 100 amp breaker . One inspector flagged me because I labeled the 200 as service disconnect and the 100 as main . He wanted them the other way around .I did that next time and another ahj flagged me wanting the 200 as main and the 100 as sub feeder.

The 200 amp is the service disco. and the 100 amp breaker is a feeder. I would simply label it sub panel and perhaps where it is location-- so it may be labeled "sub Panel in Hall"

I would ask them to speak to each other and form a concensus.

Along with agreeing with Dennis I agree with Dennis. Along with labeling "square thing that goes hmmmmm that cools the house" or "motor connected to pump that supplies potable water to house"

label for ahj

label for ahj
