what is the difference between the two. Where is the protection on a MLO panel?

The main breaker panel can feed a ml panel,then the ml panel ocd is in the main breaker panel.[ a sub panel] You can also set a disconnect,fused, and feed a ml only panel.

as the name states...MB has a breaker included in the panel, MLO does not.
A MLO feeder panel can have its OCP anywhere up stream..normally from a distriubution panel.
MLO service panels do not need a main as long as they meet 230.71

MLO panels are typically used as subpanels to another panel, to a fused disconnect, or a meter socket with a main breaker.

Has anyone ever figured out why the manufactures always give you a MBJ screw with a ML panel?

and why does Square D install the separate grounding bars in a MB panel, but you have to buy them when you install a ML panel?

Does anyone else see the ionics of this?

interesting thought. Maybe it is a hidden indicator for future qualified individuals who come across the panel. Kind of like those little white dots inside your cell phone that turn pink when exposed to water.
