Main Circuit breaker and Branch Breakers

Hello Forum,

Is there a code violation if the Main CB for a 800A rated panel is 800A, 3P, multiple branch breakers exist in the panel, new 800A,3P branch breaker is being added and overall loads are under 800A?

No issue. When adding load to this panel the load calculation will tell you if the 800 amps is enough.

As previously mentioned, no issue as long as the load is <800A. For example UPS bypass switchboards will often have 3 or 4 breakers with the same rating as the SWBD itself.
