I have read all the other posts on subpanels and like most was talking to another electrican. Subpanels came up and he gave the in sight rule for a main in the panel.
I went home and went thru all my paper work, thought I had it all written out for something like this. Read all the posts and read the code book and can't find it.
Would someone help me find the code article or articles that allow you to have a main lug panel with no main disconnect? Thanks. Boomer

If the sub-panel is in the same structure as the source then no main or disconnecting means at the sub-panel is required.

408.36 Overcurrent Protection. In addition to the re-
quirement of 408.30, a panelboard shall be protected by an
overcurrent protective device having a rating not greater
than that of the panelboard. This overcurrent protective de-
vice shall be located within or at any point on the supply
side of the panelboard
.

Don't have time now to look up the code section, but if you can apply the "six throws of the hand" rule, you can use a MLO.

For a panel in a separate structure. You can have unlimited number if the sub is in same structure.

I know that, but the OP was asking for:

Would someone help me find the code article or articles that allow you to have a main lug panel with no main disconnect?

I was only pointing out one of the ways you would be allowed to use a MLO panel.
Didn't say that was the only one.

I agree.
If the subpanel is right next to or in the same room as the MLO panel I may make a simple label as to where that panel is disconnected at and make sure the main panel is marked extra clearly. But if cost is not an issue my practice has been if it is located in another location of the structure, such as the main in the lower level and the sub in attached garage I just put a main in the sub panel even though it isn't required. It makes it easy to disconnect the power to the circuits with one breaker.
