A friend at work asked about main lug panels yesterday and where you can and cant use them.
I looked in the code book in 408.30 and 408.36, 408.36 indicates that the panel shall be protected by an overcurrent device not greater than that of the panelboard and that the ocpd shall be located within or at any point on the supply side of the panelboard.
1) So does this basically mean you can locate a main lug panel anywhere in a residence as long as it is fed from a breaker with the correct rating?
2) Would the requirements for commercial buildings be any different, regardless of what floor it is on, as long as it is the same place of buisness fed from the same service?
Thanks for any input.
