I'm a home inspector in champaign, IL. Recently I inspected a 46 year old duplex with the main panel in the kitchen near the sink. The panel had been updated to breakers, when I don't know. I can't find any code against the location. Please help
The NEC does not restrict the installation of panelboards in kitchens or near sinks. However, sufficent working space and accessibility needs to be provided. In my opinion, panels in a kitchen is poor design.
Take a look at NEC article 110.26, ?Spaces About Electrical Equipment.? I agree that it is a bad design. But if the clearances are there, then I think that you cannot, on the basis of NEC requirements, fail the inspection.
